Watch repair bench

Why Wela Thong

Attentive work, at rates that reflect the effort

The case for bringing your watch here is not built on promises. It is built on how the work is done — consistently, one piece at a time.

At a glance

Six things that shape the experience

Each of these reflects a decision we made about how the studio should operate — not a marketing point, but a working habit.

Trained practitioners

The work is carried out by watchmakers with formal training and hands-on experience across a range of movements. Not generalists — people who have spent years understanding how watches work.

Clear process, every time

Every watch goes through the same reception, assessment, scoping, and sign-off steps. The process is consistent regardless of the service tier — the detail varies, the structure does not.

Timing bench used as standard

After mechanical work, each watch is placed on the timing bench. We do not mark a job complete until readings fall within the appropriate range. This step is not skipped to save time.

Owner informed at every stage

You are told what we found, what we propose, and what we did. If scope needs to change mid-service, we pause and contact you first — no surprises on collection.

Pricing stated upfront

Each service has a published starting price in Thai Baht. Any variation is discussed and confirmed before work proceeds. The final amount is never a surprise.

Character of the piece preserved

Particularly for older watches, we work to maintain the patina and signs of age that are part of the piece's identity. Polishing is done only when you have asked for it.

Expertise

Knowledge built across many movements

Watch movements differ considerably in their design, tolerances, and needs. A lubrication schedule correct for one calibre may be harmful to another. The team at Wela Thong has worked across Swiss, Japanese, and independent movements, quartz and mechanical, modern and vintage. That range matters when a watch sits outside the common categories.

We also know when a movement is outside our scope, and we say so before accepting the work. Honesty about capability is part of the expertise.

01

Reception & condition record

The watch is examined and its condition documented before anything else happens.

02

Assessment & scope discussion

We explain what we found and agree the scope of work with you before starting.

03

Service carried out

Work proceeds within the agreed scope. Additional findings are discussed, not acted upon alone.

04

Bench verification & return

Mechanical pieces settle on the timing bench. The watch is returned once it is running as it should.

Process

A structure that keeps owner and studio aligned

The same four steps apply to every watch, from an everyday battery swap to a full overhaul. The steps exist to ensure that nothing happens without your knowledge, and that the watch leaves in the condition you were told to expect.

Client service

Conversations, not transactions

You are not expected to know the technical language of horology to bring a watch to the studio. We explain what we find in plain terms, describe the options available, and let you decide what the right next step is for that particular piece.

Enquiries are handled by Wanchai, who can respond in English or Thai and will not push toward a service that is not warranted. If the answer to your question is "the watch does not need service yet," we say so.

  • Service in English and Thai
  • Responses within one working day
  • Walk-in welcome Mon–Sat, 10:00–18:00
  • No obligation to proceed after assessment
  • Progress updates during longer services
  • Clear invoice with itemised work

What sets us apart

Distinctive features of the studio

The care ledger

A running written record for each watch that comes in — condition on arrival, work agreed, work done, and timing results. You receive a copy of the relevant entries on collection.

Scope agreed in writing before work starts

We send a brief summary of the proposed work and price for your confirmation. Nothing begins until you have seen and agreed the scope.

No artificial urgency

We do not pressure owners toward a decision or a service tier. If you need time to think, that is perfectly reasonable. The studio is here when you are ready.

Calibre-matched lubricants

Different movements require different lubricant grades and application points. We stock the appropriate compounds rather than relying on a single general-purpose product.
